At least they didn't force it for bosses. The travel etc was fast-paced enough I found myself not minding it after awhile. It'd have been downright obnoxious if they had required it on bosses, especially some of the later ones, though.

Honestly, you can write a full review having only played two hours in some games, it really ISN'T required.

Today in a related story, this blog post has been getting some attention: http://www.next-gen.biz/blogs/the-long-game
This guy is talking about how only 10% have finished his studios game "Joe Danger", most journalists only made it halfway through.
Text monkey podcast time sounds awesome, don't own a mic presently tho...
WordPress is kinda dicks.

If you want to model yourself after a Paragon of Writing, you should obviously look up to the one and only...

Me :P

I agree with a lot of what you said Turnip. I'm very guilty of not finishing games before I review them, however I always make sure I feel like I've felt what the game is about and have experience the majority of it. Note my FFXIII review. I never did finish that game, but I got up to the one part I knew was going to change it for me, if at all. After I played that, I knew there wasn't much else. Some RPGs are just too damn long to expect someone to beat the game, write a review, and post it up in the span of 2 days. Hell, I've been replaying Dragon Age Origins the past week and I'm still only on the Dwarf place! But I don't think much else is going to change in the overall experience between now and the end of the game. Unless they pull a KOTOR on me, which I'd be perfectly happy with.

Rating systems are beyond retarded. For some people, a 75% or w/e is a good game. For others, they won't buy anything below 90% (I'm referencing IGN's scores, as it is my personal favorite site aside from our own). There's something TERRIBLY wrong with that. I mean, we've all had that one game that's had shitty scores somewhere and we thought was an awesome game. Just look at God Hand! The game got some pretty mediocre scores for the most part, but it was an excellent game to a lot of people.

Now, my solution to this is simple: Video Games needs a Rotten Tomatoes-esque site. And I don't mean Metacritic. It needs a site that takes into account ALL kinds of review sites. This needs to include really small blog sites, like us. And that would generally get the population's idea of a good game. It works very well for movies and Rotten Tomatoes, I don't see why it can't work with video games. Metacritic is alright, but they only seem to take into account larger game sites, at least that's the impression I get. I try to avoid score systems usually anyways. Again, my solution is a list at the end.

"It's About the Game." This. A thousand times. X-Play was the first video game reviewing medium that I after paid attention to, and they were GOD AWFUL about this. Tell me about Resident Evil, not about how bad fixed cameras are! At least they used to be somewhat funny.

Seriousness? Oh boy, I can't wait until you see my next "review", bro. Oooooooooh boy.

I propose we have a discussion on this topic during the podcast, between all of us Text Monkeys and Brennan and Zed. A Monkeycast, if you will.

Good point about the soundtracks. I don't think I would have finished FES without muting and playing my own music in the background. How cool would a Persona game be with a constantly evolving soundtrack, one that encompassed everything, including battles? Or any RPG for that matter.

I also noticed there is a calendar in P3P that keeps track of all your social link history. Every Persona game that keeps the dating sim/social link formula needs this. And it should be accessible at any time. It's too hard to lose track of the MC's incredible social life.
