A double-whammy of podcast loveliness

…is on its way later today.

So, as many of you will no doubt have noticed, the podcasts haven’t been up for regular download in quite some time. But, as a result of things like the superbowl, and that weekend when no-one was around, and Reap not being here anymore, and all that other crazy nonsense, there have been a few problems.

Firstly, the program I use to record the podcasts has decided, for no logical reason that I can fathom, to just randomly rename its recordings to dates that don’t correspond to when they were recorded. Secondly, after trawling through the … Continue Reading

VGZ DLC #01- Box Art

Check out me and Zed open up the first ever DLC by talking about a currently hot issue in gaming, Box art.

VGZ Review: Darksiders (PS3, Xbox360)

Some things in life are unavoidable. Crazy people sitting next to you on the bus, those same people telling you that the end is nigh as you walk through town, and mentioning the Legend of Zelda and God of War in a review of Vigil Games’ début release, Darksiders.

The aforementioned crazy people would probably take quite a liking to the premise of Darksiders: Heaven and Hell, each well and truly removed from the others’ Christmas … Continue Reading

Sonic’s Project Needlemouse character countdown ends in genuine shocker

Being a long-time Sonic fan can best be described through the analogy of a battered wife, who continues to return to her abusive husband year after year, under the pretense that “He’s changed”, and “It’ll never happen again” and “It’s only because I love you”, only to get brutally smacked to the floor with an ironing board. Again.

Depressingly apt comparisons to domestic violence aside, if you’re a Sonic fan, it might just be time to get excited again. Now yes, I know, the Sonic Cycle has perpetuated itself for many … Continue Reading

VGZTV Review: The Legend of Zelda – Spirit Tracks

So, since I couldn’t stream it, I decided to make this video review instead. So here it is.

That is all.

God of War Trilogy – Almost $180

See this? This container for the upcoming God of War Trilogy, featuring the remastered versions of God of War 1 and 2, as well as God of War 3?  This finely crafted chest of mystical wonderment? This thing costs £110. That’s one hundred and ten great british pounds. That’s around $177.

In early 2001, I paid £70 for a copy of Pokemon Stadium with the transfer pak accessory to get my Pokemon into 3D. I paid £80 for The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, with the required expansion pak accessory. When … Continue Reading

VGZ CHALLENGE! #1

Welcome to the first post to introduce to you the VGZ Challenge. I am hoping this will be a fun experience for all and will enlighten us all about gaming, not only over the years of gaming, but maybe about our gaming tendencies and thoughts. All of the games that the staff and myself are picking for these challenges have had a bit of thought in them, and reasoning that goes beyond them being just another game that gets lost along the discussions of games. Maybe through the mix of these … Continue Reading

The purpose of and problems with videogame reviews

Reviews of videogames are great. They give you an accurate, informed and unbiased view of a game before you rush out and lay down your hard-earned cash, as well as providing a handy and accurate numerical scale by which to rate, classify and rank games.

Except none of that is even remotely true.

Over the last few years, reviews of videogames have grown into a minefield, no longer serving as useful consumer advice, instead reflecting ‘gamer culture’ (and everything that phrase has come to embody) as a whole. Before I continue, I should point out that I don’t consider this true of … Continue Reading
